Happy 75th birthday to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania’s GG1 No. 4935! Built by the Pennsylvania Railroad’s Juniata Shops and General Electric, No. 4935 is one of a fleet of 139 GG1s that operated on high speed passenger trains. Powerful and fast, the versatility of the GG1 also made them ideal for freight service. The streamlined design with the now famous pinstriped paint scheme is largely attributable to famed industrial designer Raymond Loewy. Many consider the GG1 to be the most successful electric locomotive ever designed. Because the sum of No. 4935’s road numbers equals 21, crews nicknamed the locomotive Blackjack. Retired in 1980, No. 4935 is now on exhibit on Track 3 East in the Museum’s Rolling Stock Hall. https://rrmuseumpa.org/collections/roster/ @rrmuseumpa #rrmuseumpa #gg1 #blackjack #historictrains #strasburgpa
